Any difference if I close a credit card or if the bank does?

I had a letter off Sainsbury to say they are closing my CC because I've not used it lately. I was planning on closing it soon - I had it for a BT, long paid off - but is there any difference in effect on my credit history if I write and ask them to close it, of if I just let them carry on and close it for ,me? It'd save me the cost of a stamp, so I'm happy to let them do it unless there's reason not to.
