What is the best sort of gas energy deal when moving house?
Moving house, hopefully before Christmas. What is the best kind of gas supply deal to go with, given there will be no choice but to set up a new supply, and likely a new supplier?
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

When you move in, you will automatically become a customer of the previous owners' current supplier. They will try to put you on a fixed deal, but at the moment, you will probably be better off on their default tariff.reheat said:Moving house, hopefully before Christmas. You can switch later, but you'll struggle to find any really good deals at the moment.
Hope the move goes well2 -
The SVR as it's the lowest any provider can give just don't be tempted to fix at a higher rate than the SVR.Someone please tell me what money is1

The capped prices are quoted for a typical user, so I then looked at per-unit capped prices, which are also stated as being for a typical user. Presumably the per-unit capped prices are simply derived from the typical prices, and that the per unit capped prices will be a pretty good guide for most users, if they use them to then calculate their own expected costs, based on their own usage.
Bearing in mind the house moving into is a small 1-bed terraced.
What does the cap actually apply to?Favours are returned ... Trust is earned

What about continuity of supply? Can the existing owner instruct the existing supplier to terminate the gas and electricity supplies, so that there is nothing for the new owner when they move in? Or can it be relied on that there will always be gas and electricity supplies carried across from the previous owner?

You can rely on there being gas and electric. Just like the people moving into your old place can.reheat said:What about continuity of supply? When leaving your old place you must read (and photo) meters and give them to your supplier. You will then get a final bill.
Likewise when you move in - read (and photo) meters and give reads to the existing supplier and go on their SVR tariff.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

Many thanks for all the help so far by the way everyone.I guess they could if they really wanted to, but:- it would cost them money to do so,
- they'd have to declare that to their buyer (you), and
- you'd no doubt ask for a £1000 reduction in the purchase price to cover reinstatment costs.

The only likely scenario in which you could find yourself without is if you discovered on arrival that the meters were prepay ones and there was no credit left…in theory it’s relatively quick to sort out but in fact it can take a few hours. It IS sortable though, and if those meters are smart then it’s pretty straightforward.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
