    What are the charges imposed?

Markets have a good run recently. Difficult not to have made money. Not going to last forever. Charges will bite in poorer market conditions.

With profits funds are an older style product but still plenty around.
They are designed to smooth out the ups and downs of the markets by holding back money in good years to help in the bad years . Their detailed workings are rather opaque which is one reason they are less popular .
In the world of investments, by designing a fund to be less volatile then you inevitably sacrifice growth in the long term , so with profits funds tend to be rather sluggish performers.
In this context ,  then 8% pa is actually pretty good ( in my opinion )

In my humble lack of knowledge on financial matters 8% pa seems ok to me?
Yup although remember that comparable cash savings rates were higher in the years before the financial crisis.

Thanks to all who have made a input to the thread
I think we might give RL a call to see if we can deposit the £19k into the fund. It has been said that we could transfer it to Vanguard but tbh we would struggle to choose a fund with our very limited knowledge.
The RL isa looks to be a safer investment happy with a 8% increase ( I know not guaranteed).
In the last 2 months  I opened a Vanguard 100% equity  SS isa (up 7%) when I looked last month .
Trying not to keep checking it, just gonna let it roll on for min 5 yrs .
So maybe the RL fund will balance things out ?

we have another £30k just sitting in a current account that we need to invest, but will make another post about that later.
    Thanks all.
A thankyou is payment enough .
