Bank Transfer France to UK - How long?

I sold an item on Ebay recently to a French buyer for over £500. I asked for payment by bank transfer - he says he paid the cash in one week ago but it still hasn't appeared in my account.
Does anyone know how long it takes? My bank don't seem to know the answer! By the way I'm pretty sure he's genuine & it's not a scam, my only suspicion is that he's stalling for time and hasn't paid the money yet.
Thanks.

Paid in the cash to a UK account? How?
If it was a bank transfer there wouldn't have been any cash involved - so either that's a bad choice of words, or he is stringing you a line.
Got any emails we could look at?My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Hi Fay, sorry - bad choice of words! It was a bank transfer from a French bank to my UK bank - ignore the bit about cash.0

When I asked my bank, RBS, about transferring money to France they said their EXPRESS service would be 5 to 7 days
So I'm thinking it won't be too long now?0 -
Ok... they ought to be pretty quick.
Did they ask you for your IBAN / BIC numbers? Do you know if they're paying in euros?
Edit in response to post above..... it's just the UK system that is antiquated, INCOMING european transfers are quick, and cheap! My TV is broken!

Yes they did ask for my IBAN & BIN - not sure if they paid in Euros or sterling. If Edinburghlass' experience is the norm I'll have to wait another couple of days before I start asking questions of my buyer.
Fay, this is the the item that was pulled for keyword spamming if you remember - it's obviously one that's destined to be a pain! The second highest bidder (UK based) has offered more than the winning bid and cash on collection - but I've done the right thing & stuck with my French winner. However, the item would be gone & I'd have the money by now if I'd been less hasty (changed auction from UK only to International at the last minute in response to buyer's pleas!!). That'll learn me.0 -
I occasionally send payments this way to Germany and it is VERY quick, 2-3 days, but I'd wait a week before enquiring.
I have to fill in a form at the bank, and I get the top copy back. I don't know if it's the same for your buyer, but you could tell them you're concerned it hasn't arrived yet and ask if you could have a scan of their receipt so that you can make enquiries with your bank?0 -
Whenever I have received International bank transfers it has normally been 3 days maximum. Your bank should be able to tell you this.0

I agree that you should haev received it by now... I'd be a) enquiring at the bank, and failing that, b) double checking with the buyer which account details they used.My TV is broken!

hi just a quick question..... if paying euros to germany do the banks charge for the service?
wanting to buy something from germany but unsure of how or where to do the transfer
if its easy to do it would open up a whole new world of ebay to me
thanks
ps i'm with the halifax if that helps"we don't stop playing because we get old; we get old because we stop playing."0 -
Costs £20 to make this transfer from Barclays
Plus an unnecessary amount of form-filling.
I'd be very interested to know if I can get a better deal as I do at least two of these a year and it mounts up.0
