BA - Will they cancel my return if I don't board the outbound flight

I have made an error booking a BA flight and hotel to Dublin - The outbound date is wrong plus i'm a night short accommodation wise

This is wholly my error due to misreading some dates, so fully accept alteration/cancelation charges if they are due. I just can't get through to the the number they have provided which understandably must be swamped with calls. I have read in various place that BA will amend a genuine error if notified within 24hrs, which might have been possible in non covid times

So my options -

Book another return flight and possibly get a refund to APD and fees

Book another outbound flight and hope I can contact customer services to plead with them not to cancel the return leg

Book a return with another airline, write off the flight cost and assume the hotel booking stands regardless of flights

  • If you do nothing and don't take outbound flight the return will be cancelled

If you booked directly with BA there are plenty of telephone numbers for them online.  Have travelled with them several times in the last 18 months and had to phone them for changes multiple times, choosing a number that looks like it may be prioritised and most calls answered within 10 minutes, none go over 30 minutes waiting.
  • If this is booked as a BA holiday you can make the changes yourself  go to Manage My Bookingto change your dates.

You will not be charged a  booking fee although you will need to pay any difference in fare.

I have tried 3 different BA numbers all say "we are not taking calls at this time.

The Manage my booking just comes back with "Please get in touch"

A quick google for their regular customer telephone numbers gives two freephone numbers, trying both gives a message bout possible long wait but then goes into the queue.

They used to be fairly hot that if you werent entitled to use those numbers that they'd tell you to go away and phone the normal customer numbers but havent had that happen in years... was asked once recently how I got the number and just said my EA had given it to me (havent had a PA for years and never an EA but they seemed to accept the answer)

Yes, I tried a freephone no. yesterday after 30min an answer followed by "sorry can't help you, I'll divert you" the divert landed me back to the "unable to take calls" message

You can cancel the flights yourself for a future travel voucher, then use the future travel voucher to book the flights you want.

Provided the flights aren’t sold out it should work fine. The FTV usually arrives within an hour, often instantly.
