Sky package rip off?

Hi guys,

would appreciate some advice please.

We signed up for the Sky TV, phone and internet package at £19.99 a month, all well and good and all was well, until we got our first bill.

We have been charged £36 and this charge will continue. When we contated Sky we were told that the extra charge is because we live so far from the telephone exchange (we live in the middle of no where) and have to have the higher internet package.

Can I ask is this legal as we were not told about this when we signed up or is it best just to cancel the deal?

Any advice would be great,

Many thanks x

  • Did you sign up unline if you did the system would have indicated you were not eligible for the Free ? broadband part of the bundle. The reason you cant have it is because your exchange has not been unbundled nowt to do with distance from exchange.

If you signed up over phone they usually tell you Free ? Broadband is not available.

Having entered the contract it might prove difficult to get out of it.
  • Hi,

many thanks for that, we signed up over the phone and was not told that we were not eligible for the £19.99 bundle.
That is my gripe with them, if we had been told from the outset I wouldn't have a problem, but to sign up and be told everything is fine then to get a higher bill is in my opinion wrong.
Could this be classed as mis-selling?
    Many thanks

If they didn't tell you, then they can't hold you to contract.

You could take your calls package and broadband elsewhere and keep the TV package, or simply tell them to cancel the lot as they mis-sold you the package and didn't tell you you had to have the Bt Wholesale broadband package and not their LLU broadband package.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • Many thanks for the advice, much appreciated
  • you should have a 30 day cooling off period, perhaps, if youre paying £20/month you may be better off looking elsewhere? isp comparisons inc. sky here as you can see you'd be better off with sky than tiscali and talktalk, but a lot worse off than with other providers.
