I have 2 fish tanks and use less than 2000 kWh/pa.  Do you actually use more than 7000 kWh/pa or is that your calculation from an instantaneous power reading?  I would take some kWh readings from the main meter every day for 1 or 2 weeks, (and monthly thereafter).

I don't think this has been going on for that long but the past couple of months our electricity usage has gone up a lot. Hopefully the pump cleaned out will bring it right back down if not I'll look a new pump. We use about 6000 kwh/pa
  • How has the consumption beed since @Jibber123 ?  Can't think the USB items would be the whole problem

A blocked pump just becomes a water heater. It could easily account for a few hundred Watts. USB ports don't tend to use any energy at all unless something is actually plugged in.

the fridge freezer in the kitchen and freezer in the garage, both of which are less that 3 years old and A+++ rated
I see you have found the likely culprit with the pump, but when looking at instantaneous consumption its worth knowing that fridges/freezers cycle through on and off states. I can see in my power tracking graphs that my (fairly new) separate fridge and freezers add about 100W between them while they are both "cooling", then they turn off for a while and use almost nothing.
