Sky Customer for 15 years, thinking to upgrade to Sky Q, wondering if it will be more/less expensive

I've been with Sky for +15 years and currently paying for TV, broadband and talk services - I'm basically out of contract and pay about £145/pm (£90 for TV and £55 for broadband and telephone)

I recently received an email about an 'upgrade' offer which would move my broadband service from Sky Fibre Max to Superfast and cut the cost from £55/pm to £40/pm.

Whilst researching this, I then noticed that for my TV package there's no longer a Variety package and everything's moved over to Signature/Ultimate with the new Sky Q box.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation or upgraded recently? Reading the T&Cs I'm aware there's a new 18 month contract, but with all the extra adding and hidden fees I'm lost as to whether it ends up cheaper in the long-run.

You can have Signature on Sky+HD.  That's just the latest name for the package bundle.  Variety hasn't been a thing since 2018.

You can do much better than £145 for all that.  You do not have to stay with Sky for phone/internet, feel free to make the most of Black Friday deals and see what else is there.  You can play these off Sky to reduce your bill or move provider, it will not affect your ability to use Sky TV or the on-demand.

You don't need to move to Q if you don't want to, you can probably get a better deal by just phoning Sky up and saying you are thinking of going.

It appears to me that you are paying a lot more than the going rate for Broadband & phone - I pay la lot less than that with BT for 76mbit/s FTTP and unlimited calls.

Other suppliers are even less than me but I have to wait until next year before I can change when I reckon I could get it down to around £30-£35 without the phone (SKY ultrafast is currently £33 for 145mbit/s plus phone calls - but as we've got unlimited calls on the mobile we wont bother with a phone subscription)

What on earth do you get for £90 in the way of TV.

I've got the basic SKY Signature package with a SKY Q box. It costs me £18/mo last year to upgrade from my ten year old HD box to Q including installation of a shiny new dish, it's gone up up £21/mo this year after a bit of a chat with them (they wanted £31 but I told them to get stuffed)

I don't need or want sports, films or other stuff, so it might be worth you evaluating exactly what you watch and working out what you really need.

Just think -  £145/mo = £1740/year which by the time you paid tax and NI etc is £2,250 worth of salary - getting it sorted could be equivalent to a £1000+ salary rise.

We changed up to sky Q and apart from having to add extra modem boxes for the upstairs system, it is ok. Sky are always the most expensive and have silly prices if you want everything, like sports and films, but you get what you pay for, your choice.

We to have been thinking of shifting to Sky Q  with them years and Diamond VIP!!! what ever nonsense that is.

My only holdback is the Q operations....both of us must be tech idiots because stayed in holiday cottage with Q and at end of the week I could just about find channels.....yet I can manage sky go...........

Is it me or is Sky TV downgrading itself so much............yet not matching the lower output with costs

We’ve got Sky Q about 18 months ago.  We have a box in the lounge and one in our bedroom.  You will pay an additional fee for the extra box.  I don’t see much difference between Sky+ HD and Sky Q apart from a different menu.  An engineer will have to come to upgrade your satellite dish.  Things like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime will only work on a Sky Q box.  If this is applicable to you.

The cost will go up!  This is normal with Sky.  They will say it won’t but it does.  I have been a customer since February 2005.

They will push really hard to get you on to the Q box and say that the HD one is very old and you can record more on the newer box.

I do like Sky Q but have recently cancelled my contract on the assumption that they will call me back with a better offer.  Might be an idea to do that.  My subscription was going to go up to £104 for Broadband and TV.  This doesn’t include sports and movies.
