Tesco shelf labels. Make sure you have your glasses on.

Options
Nearly got caught out by this Tesco label. Chorizo £2.50, the Any 2 for £2 refers to Cheeses, I had to photograph the text and blow it up to be sure as I didn't have glasses with me. OK so it looks like a too good to be true offer, but if it had been, say, 2 for £3 or £4 I would not have checked and would have ended up paying full price for both.

And what they don't say too.  Bought 4 for £3 soup and when I looked at my bill after it showed that I could have got 8 for £5!

That yellow label says "Selected Cheese Accompaniments".   Chorizo could be an accompaniment for cheese?

The problem is that the products shown don't match the white price label - different product and different brand.  Good thing you checked...
I need to think of something new here...

It used to be our shopping activity to look for misleading and strangely placed shelf labels in Tesco.

Have found 500g tubs of Flora with a shelf label of £3.00, next to 250g tubs on offer at £1.00.  Similar discrepancies with pricing on tea bags.

This one below from a short while back.  You can either buy 4 Snicker bars for £1.50 or 7 Snicker bars for £1.50. You decide.

Yes I've benefited from some of those strange dodgy deals in the past, which is why I could have fallen quite easily for the 2 for £2 as it looked like one of those.  This is the first time I recall seeing a yellow offer on the same white label as a different product.

My husband used to spend one evening a week going round out local Tesco checking prices , while I was at a an evening  class.  He became on first name terms with the supervisors.

He queried a case of a pack of 2 items being cheaper than another pack of 2.  They said it was because the offers overlapped but they had to display both.

On one occasion their own brand soft drinks were 99p a pack of 4. But the  cost per ml was different  for each flavour, despite them being the same size and same price. Also, not one of them was correct. He dew the manager's  attention to it ( the manager  happened to be in the shop that evening) . The manager expressed his annoyance at things like that but the shelf labels are sent to the shop and they cannot change them.

Supermarkets employ tactics to make it very hard to compare prices.
They display price tickets that sometimes indicate price per 'gm' or 'Kg' while others are priced per 'oz' or 'lb'.
In some cases they price items in terms of 'quantity' or 'packets'.
Cheaper items are often placed low down on the shelves where they are not so obvious.
You often see 'offers' on larger packs that work out more expensive than buying multiple smaller packs.
    It's all deliberate.

I think you'll find it's still illegal to only show imperial prices.
