Rusty towel radiator - guarantee not honoured
Comments

Thanks for all these responses - Only Radiators said the first year of the warranty was their responsibility (maybe a legal requirement?) but thereafter the longer warranty was down to the supplier. It seems that chrome towel radiators are liable to rust, and powder coated may be better - some guidance from the sellers would be helpful! Yes, it was not an expensive item so I'll just have to suck it up, as they say.1

Warranty usually from the manufacturer and subject to any terms and conditions they want .Consumer Rights the law against the vendor .That law gives you up to six years to take court action .Under CR i would pursue the vendor as not fit for purpose .They are entitled for proof of your assertion via an independent report .0

Some retailers mention in their t&c's that their products need to be fitted by a qualified tradesperson in this case a plumber or heating installer.
Would a plumber or heating installer chose that unknown chrome item from an unknown manufacturer ?
Anyway who reads t&c's

I do.I used to sell clocks in a shop where the guarantees issued were nothing to do with the manufacture. Just a random company that did 'guarantees' and then couldn't be contacted when something went wrong.Ever since I check.

reminds me of the time I bought a cream coloured umbrella. it started rusting at the joints after about 2 months. When I took it back to the store to complain they asked me why I had allowed it to get wet.

Up to the OP whether to pursue this, but I suspect he's on a hiding to nowhere. He might 'get lucky', but I suspect that the 'law' is on the side of the manufacturer in this case. Simply because the rad's description says it's for keeping towels and dressing gowns 'warm'.Put it this way - if you regularly draped wet/damp towels on a conventional painted rad (like I do...), and it started to show surface rust, would you have a case against the manufacturer? I don't think so.Rads will either rust from the inside - if your system water is airy and unhealthy - or from the outside if you let it get regularly damp. In both cases, the rad itself is not at fault. A radiator will simply not become damp in normal use.I wonder if SS towel rails say 'to keep your towels warm and dry...'?

Better off with a ......... power coated towel warmer made in uk or a known manufacture in europe.
On a painted radiator with chrome fittings, the fittings feel MUCH hotter - almost enough to burn you - than the radiator, as they lose heat primarily via conduction. Conversely, you can feel the warmth on your face at a distance from a white radiator, but probably not from chrome one.0 -
Shiny surfaces radiate less than non-shiny.Matt black is the best radiator0
