Problems Using The Free Plex App on Amazon Firestick Lite

I bought an Amazon Fire TV Stick (Lite) for my father to use to watch all the old Western films.
We were using the free to download Plex app for several weeks and it was working fine. Now however, once a film is selected after it's been playing for a ten minutes or so, the picture becomes scrambled (small bright green squares) and unwatchable.

Any ideas what to do. Would deleting the app and reinstalling it help or is anyone aware of issues with the free to download Plex app?

Thanks

Film size and quality?  Media format?  Internet speed?

Sorry, the only details I know is that my internet speed is 10 MB down and 1MB up.

The other apps I have installed on the 'stick stream OK and Plex did also for several weeks.

I'm watching a film now on another app and it's HD1080p, streaming OK.
  • Check the firmware is up to date and install latest if it isn't.

Router reboot? Did you mean Fire stick reboot? Or are you meaning router so as to clear the connections table? (I rarely reboot my router - can't remember the last time I did this).

@scoot65 there's a couple of apps you can put on the stick (search for them, and use Downloader to install) to help with killing running apps and freeing up memory/storage ... Background Apps & Process List (for killing apps) and Dangbei Assistant (for memory/storage). :)

    Thanks Jenni for that information.
In the post you quoted, I took to mean clear the Fire stick cache and reboot the internet router...... I could be wrong.

Yes - they said router. I'm merely querying why, as I've never done that to mine and I don't have streaming issues. (Albeit I don't use Plex).

  • The Firestick lite doesn't do 4K so would expect the 10mb internet to be fine

I use Plex on the previous non 4k version
If I have any buffering issues it usually just freezes the picture
Plex negotiates between client and server so would expect it to adjust to a suitable data rate for the device

The suggestion about using "Background Apps & Process List " to clear out memory is a good one
Trouble is there doesn't seem to be a single click method of clearing background apps etc in that app
its case of using that app to step through each one it lists and terminating it
(unless I've missed the Single click fix - in which case please point me at it )
I have found that technique to work with other streaming services

You're right - you have to select the apps you want to close (e.g. you might want to keep an app like Cetus Play running as that allows you to use your phone as a remote), and then it lets you cycle through the apps to force close them.

Dangbei is good for clearing caches and freeing up memory. That is a 1-click operation.
