Hi everyone,
I have been combing through the nhs site, the UK-us embassy site and British airways advice section. I cannot locate the definitive test that needs to be taken to prove covid status.
I have gone through the various recommended providers and some area mix of rapid and pcr.  But the latest confusion I have is that a few sites state that to travel to the U.S, the tests need to be supervised. But this is not in all the rules.
Can anyone help clarify what test I will actually need for the 3 days prior to departure please?
Kindest regards.

CDC site would be the definitive source https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html
    no ambiguity re self-tests
"The testing procedure must include a telehealth service affiliated with the manufacturer of the test that provides real-time supervision remotely through an audio and video connection. Some FDA-authorized self-tests that include a telehealth service may require a prescription"

If as the title of your post suggests you are not travelling until 2022 it is certainly wise to do your research but I would keep an eye out for changes.  What is required today or tomorrow may be different next year, next month or next week.
  • Thanks for the reply all.
Emma, I cannot locate the info on the gov website that states the required test alongside a supervised audio and video conference. That's the confusing part. So essentially it is just stating a test is needed.
Caz, thanks for that summary, I will go with a test that does provide the supervised option.
Westin, you are absolutely right, I'll bookmark these links to make sure I keep a check.
    Again, thankyou everyone.

Not to be pendantic but the Gov.uk site clearly links to the areas you need 😉.

The exact extract is as follows:

British nationals planning to travel to the US from 8 November 2021 should familiarise themselves with the new requirements on the CDC website before booking any travel.

Fully vaccinated air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country must get a COVID-19 test no more than 3 days before their flight departs. Most travellers that are not fully vaccinated will need to test no more than one day before travel or present a negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 in the past three months to the airline before boarding the flight. Only those with an exception or US Citizens, US Nationals, and US Lawful Permanent Residents will be able to enter the US unvaccinated. More details are on the US Embassy website.

You dont HAVE to do it over video call. Going for a physical test performed by someone else is fine, basically they dont want people doing a self-administered test.
