Amazon return

Hoping for some assistance with this one. I recently purchased am external SSD from Amazon. Unfortunately I had purchased the wrong one and decided to return this. I asked my partner to return this to Amazon. Almost two weeks later (yesterday) I get an email saying I had returned the wrong item and I would not be refunded. Having checked it seems my partner has actually returned the wrong item. I explained to mix up to Amazon and asked them to return the item to me and I just keep getting the same email back - its almost like an out of office (but isn't). No matter what I say or how I say it I get the EXACT same response. 

I do appreciate this is 100% my fault, but is there anything I can do to get my old SSD back - I can imagine there are some files on there I would like to keep.

    There seem to be a glut of things mistakenly sent to Amazon on this board recently - it might be worth reading through this ongonig thread here if you've not already spotted it.

    I did read it after making the post. In my instance it was a £100 SSD - so not the end of the world I's just like my old SSD (in the files that were on it) to be returned. There was no mention of my items being discarded in my email, however every time I have replied I just get the same email back, which is below:

    Thank you for writing to us. We have noticed unusual activity on your account. When unusual account activity comes to our attention, we review each account to determine if additional action is necessary, including account closure. We would prefer to do all we can to help you avoid any problems with your Amazon orders.

    Your comments and suggestions will help us improve our store and offer better service to our customers.
    We received old and used WD SSD instead of the original item WD 1TB My Passport Portable SSD with NVMe Technology, USB-C, Read Speeds of up to 1050MB/s & Write Speeds of up to 1000MB/s. Works with PC, Xbox, Play from your order #

    At this time we cannot issue a refund for the items you returned to Amazon.

    If you would like to appeal this decision, please reply to this email to reach an Account Specialist. Our Customer Service team can only confirm that we sent this message and help you with technical issues. They cannot reverse this decision or share more details on this matter.

    What *exactly* happens to the items mistakenly returned remains a mystery, but the one thing that seems consistent is that nobody get's their old item back.

    I am sorry to know that you have not received the refund for return order #.

    I understand that your concern regarding return of the wrong item, as you would like to get the wrong item back to you. Please let me assist you with this.

    I have now contacted relevant team and informed them to speed up the delivery for the misplaced item as soon as possible.

    The Fulfillment Centre team will send back to you any non-Amazon items that have been returned to us by mistake. Please be assured that you will receive the old WD SSD at the earliest.

    I would guess like most big carriers. Its really down to getting the information to the right people/location in time to intercept items before they get lost to internal processes.
