Washing machine stops mid cycle?

a few times now (appears random) my washing machine stops for apparently no reason in mid cycle, usually half way through the rinse and before the spin and i have to manually shunt the dial along a notch to make it start again
does anybody have any idea why this is?

When mine did that it was the circuit board that runs it through the programmes :-/
Faulty0 -
I agre with what traf said, mine did that and it was the programme not being able to click on.
Get an engineer to have a look0 -
I had something not too dissimilar with my old Zanussi, which was due to the heater not working. Although the machine didn't stop out-right, it wouldn't move on to the next stage.0

Thanx guys, i guess i will have to get a man round to have a look at it ::)0

Or a woman ... plenty of women engineers these days ;-)
I had a similar problem but with Bosch and after careful thought I realised that I was overfilling with clothes and when all full of water too was too heavy. May just be worth watching to see if it only does it on fuller wash.0 -
check the filter.
some machines do not seem to have a filter, but if you look under the machine u will/should find a large rubber hose that will collect all the rubbish, i had a pound coin in ours!0 -

just had the same probs with my (the wifes) machine and have had the motor changed, thankfully it was under warranty.
odd though cause i thought it was the circuit board aswell0 -
I don't want to state the obvious but some programs do this anyway...check to see if there are any extra buttons depressed that should'nt be.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

Also double check that the inlet water hose isn't getting kinked, and that the taps are fully open if the waterflow is restricted it stops the cycle.Waddle you do eh?0

As N9eav said, some cycles do this automatically - my mum's old machine used to do it as clothes get less creased sitting in the rinse water as they would after spinning when the cycle has finished0
