Part exchange properties are highly inflated and you can negotiate a good reduction, you can also pressure them into the sale quicker as they want to offload.

I wish I had been more emotionally prepared to how stressful home purchase can be.

I wish I had known that the conveyancing process can drag on and on far longer than I thought.

viewed the auction property with another person for second pairs of eyes.

stuck to my budget and not be too emotionally attached.

gotten a solicitor to read the terms and condition prior to bidding.

When I bought my first house I bought in Wortley, Leeds nothing wrong with the area but I was a bit isolated there. I should have moved to Kirkstall instead as it would have been a better fit for me.
Financially I did okay but it was 3 years of isolation.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
  • Was FTB - wish I had understood the stress more. Wish I hadn't of trusted solicitor and questioned things more. Wish I'd have multiplied my money to use after purchase by 5! So many hidden extras that I now feel so insecure financially. Wish I had understood the market better when getting fixed term and how it can impact when remortgaging.

Curious on the last bit - as an FTB! - how does fixed term affect remortgaging? Thank you!

Regarding the fixed term, did your circumstances change meaning you remortgaged before the fixed term ended? Usually you remortgage when the term ends and no early repayment charge payable.

I wish I'd bought my first flat in London five years earlier than I actually did!

What hidden extras? I am hopefully completing this week. We have already paid the solicitors.
  • Wish we had stuck to our budget.
We did but at the top end instead of £5000 less.  In fact, the lady wanted to sell, it was the husband that stuck out for the extra but we should have been prepared to walk away.

Had a really good experience with a solicitor though - we'd use him again.
