Injured on holiday - confused about policy

Hi, apologies for this dim query but we’re not getting much help from insurers. We’ve got £1.2m of medical insurance and I’ve suffered an injury on day one of our holiday that means I can’t travel home for a further three weeks. The insurers are paying the medical bills, my hotel and my flight home but won’t pay my husbands flight (he overstayed to take care of me, get me to medical appointments but then had to return for work) and I expect them to refund the holiday cost as we haven’t had a holiday but not sure what that comes under in terms of policy. They’re also claiming the hotel cost comes under a fixed hotel contribution but as I’m not allowed to fly I think the hotel is a medical cost. Not wanting to take the pee but already a holiday down, over 800 euro expended in extra travel and taxis etc and just want to confidently claim what we’re owed in terms of losing our holiday (but whilst here in the resort) and wanting to take that holiday again in 22 with less drama. Thanks in advance

A link to the policybook would be helpful
What are the extra travel and taxis etc? If these are to medical appointments then these may be covered.
Unfortunately Travel insurance varies massively from policy to policy and so without seeing wording any advice can only be talking about the norm but with 90% of people buying insurance on price alone there is a big race to the bottom in terms of quality and covers get cut to shave 2% off the price.
Most travel insurance will cover one person staying with the sick/injured person where its considered "necessary"... I can certainly see grounds for arguments that its not necessary in this case if they've gone home before you and so could have just used the original flights.1 -
As above. Also, I doubt you'll be refunded for the loss of holiday - AFAIK that's not included with standard travel insurance policies. If you have receipts for taxis etc. that should (?) cover you for essential expenses.Best reading the small print of the policy for such details.0

Hope you recovery quickly - Keep receipts for everything, get all the medical advice in writing too (e.g that you can’t fly home for 3 weeks) - you will likely need to submit all this with your claim and it will be difficult to obtain once back in UK.1

Did your husband still stay in the holiday accommodation whilst he remained in the country and are you using that same accommodation to recuperate? I'd be interested to know how you get on with this.

Did you or your husband discuss him staying to assist you before doing it?0
