Surveyor quote expensive?

Just had a survey quote for a small one bed room flat via my agent. £390?? Does that seem a bit steep. This is in the South West, not London.

Why not get more than one quote? It sounds pretty good to me, but then I live in a London suburb.

That sounds quite reasonable and I live in Yorkshire.

Agree that it's sensible. It's a day or a day and halfs work to look round and write the report. Plus there's the risk they are taking. 

It would be simply impossible for them to make an acceptable living for anything less than £300 plus Vat. If it was less than that, I'd be asking serious questions about whether it's a good enough job.

Which level of survey?

Just looking at the flat, or the whole building?

But for a basic survey it's about right. If you want one more detailed, including the whole building (remember you are almost certainly liable to contribute to costs of building maintenance and repairs), it's very cheap.

(and if you are buying, it's not 'your' estate agent, it's the seller's estate agent. As a matter of principle I'd avoid their recommended solicitor, mortgage broker, surveyor etc.)
