Registered charity raising funds by card

Hi All

Hope I've picked the right group for this post.  I'm part of a Brass Band who are a registered charity, usually over the Christmas period we go Christmas carolling in local supermarkets with a bucket for donations of spare cash.  However with the current climate and people using less cash I've been having a think about the best way we can keep raising funds whilst doing our carolling gigs.  We've been looking into Zettle, SumUp and even Paypal however they all seem to have a fee per transaction.  I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience of an app or service that we could use that our listeners would just tap a card and we could get a donation without having to pay a fee.  Looking for the best way to raise funds as we've not been able to get out fundraising for the last 18 months due to restrictions.  Thanks for reading and any advise given.  Fi  :)

I suspect most will have a charge, because there are costs involved in providing a secure environment in which to make donations.

Have you looked at donations by text? Might be more cost effective.

Another suggestion would be to print business cards listing donation websites you're registered with and give these out.

Cannot help with specific card payment ideas, good luck with your research.

Any card reader will charge a fee as there is a fee to pay for processing the transaction.
I use zettle which is powered by PayPal and there is around 2% fee per transaction and no monthly fees.
That being said people still have cash on them, I'm now being paid in cash again a fair bit after around a year of almost exclusively card transactions.

Card payments are not free.  The card issuer gets an interchange fee for each card use and the card merchant (machine provider) needs income to cover their costs and make a profit.  Also, recent law changes so that banks have to provide refunds in the event of fraudulent transactions etc add to their costs.

As a “small” user, look at the suggested providers in some of the other helpful posts.  Far cheaper for small users that one of the bank sponsored schemes.
