Hi all
Moved recently. Dark hall as lack of windows. Very old house. Ceiling is good quality embossed wallpaper painted white. We are going to paint walls much lighter colour than present.
But started ceiling with good quality dulux and not made noticeable difference. Did a patch with 2 coats and no difference. As I said good condition and no patches. Question is do I continue or just start the walls? Not being lazy it's just that it's quite a big hallway and if I can't see a difference is there any point continuing? Probably last done about 5 years ago.

If the ceiling looks ok to you then crack on with the wallsSorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.1

I'd say it depends on whether you are going to try different lights which would make it brighter, or how it would look in full sun in summer. Would this little patch show?!
If you already have the paint out and stuff and access isn't difficult a small hall with a roller won't take long :

I find Berger paint denser than dulux if you have the energy to give it a go again.
If it looks ok I'd get on with the walls.
A good ceiling makes it look cleaner but not necessarily brighter. I had to do 3 coats on mine which hadnt been painted in 20yrs.
Furnish the hall with frames and bits that reflect light, pictures that are of a wide open distant view with bright skies.
It's surprising what a little mind trickery does.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
