  • Can you check the meter serial number that’s on your gas meter compared to the one that’s on your statement please?

The serial number on my meter matches the number on my bill. And I've since spoken to my partner and the meter swap out was arranged through Scottish Power via SGN who ultimately came out and swapped the meter over. When trying to get to the bottom of the 92 pound a month we have been paying for energy, Scottish power confirmed we have a gas account with them, but they were adamant that we still have a payg account for the gas, despite us trying to communicate we have a normal gas meter installed. We were trying to negotiate onto a cheaper duel fuel tariff but were told we only pay direct debit on electricity, which iswhen we ultimately found out SP still think we have a PAYG account. Tried explaining what had happened with the meters but the customer advisor just kept repeating we are on a PAYG account for gas

It sounds to me as though it's time for a COMPLAINT.

You need to speak to SP again & as QrizB says, raise it as a complaint. If they have you on a PAYG meter & it’s commissioned they should just be able to do a mode change remotely to a credit meter anyway.
If they can’t, offer to send them photos of the meter to show it’s in credit mode.
Make  sure you get a complaint ref number so you know it’s definitely been raised.
If they still do nothing about it, once it goes over 8 weeks you can go to the ombudsman or alternitively do nothing & once it’s been over 12 months, back billing rules will apply which means they can only charge you for 12 months gas usage As long as there are notes on your account & you can prove you have tried to sort this out.
