Taking a lodger and claiming UC and HB

To find out whether or not your Council Tax Reduction will be affected you will need to find the scheme rules on your local authority website (each LA can set their own rules). Many local authorities now base CTR on information supplied by UC so there may be no impact.Samjo13 said:Sorry, yes I do claim the council tax reduction.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. In the interests of being open and honest, and respectful to the tax payer, I would tell both. At least that way you have laid your cards down and should expect no negative feedback should, in the future, it is established that UC should be made aware.calcotti said:I don’t think you need to tell UC.
You do need to tell Council Tax.
You still haven’t answered the question about whether or not you claim Council Tax Reduction.
Whether or not the lodger can claim help with rent depends on their circumstances. Even if eligible they will need a formal lodger agreement in order to claim.0
