Travelling to Ireland with vaccinated 14 yr old

Options
Can't find the answer so I am hoping that someone can help.
We are flying from Luton to Dublin next week. Then going straight up to N Ireland by coach.
Both adults are fully vaccinated and the 14 yr old has had the one dose in school.
On the gov.ie site it states

Accompanying Children:

  • Children between the ages of 12 and 17 will be required to have a negative RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival to travel into the country, unless they have valid proof of vaccination or recovery.
I also found somewhere that if you arrive without a test, you must do one within 2 or 3 days of arrival but I can't remember where I found that.
As we are not staying in the Republic and will be flying back from Belfast to the UK within a few days, do we have to actually pay for a RT-PCR test?
And if so, are the ones you get and post back okay to do? Do most of the results come back in time to fly?

  • You need a PCR test.

Do I need a COVID test before coming to Ireland?

You do not need a COVID-19 test before arriving in Ireland if any of the following applies to you:

    • You have an EU Digital COVID Certificate that shows you are fully vaccinated
    • You have an EU Digital COVID Certificate that shows you have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 180 days
    • You are aged 11 or under
    • You have another acceptable proof that you are fully vaccinated with an EMA approved vaccine, or that you have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 180 days

If none of the above applies to you, you must have a negative RT-PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before your arrival in Ireland. An antigen test is not accepted.

"Just passing" is not an exemption.

  • I wonder why it says, in the bit I quoted above, unless they have proof of vaccination.

Also, what is the best way to get the test done. We don't live anywhere near a drive through one. I did find a sampling station drop off thing for Eurofins about 10 miles away. So I'm wondering if that is the safest way to do the test.
And I'm also kicking myself for not realising that she would even need to test before flying from the UK to Ireland. As someone from N Ireland who has always freely travelled between mainland UK, Ireland and N Ireland, it didnt even occur to me until about 30 mins after I had booked the flights.
Ah well, you live and learn.

Because they need to make it clear that there are no exemptions for under 18's but over 12's?  Some countries do have blanket exemptions for children under a certain age (usually accompanied by their parents,.) It would appear Ireland does not.
  • Thanks LHALM. That makes sense.
Now I just need to figure out the best and most cost-effective way of doing it now.
  • Was able to click and collect a test from Randox from our local shopping centre. And have a drop box within about 10 miles.
Using the click and collect it cost £34.99. A lot cheaper than anything else I had seen. And recommended by friends who have used ut locally and were impressed with the service.
