Direct line refuses to refund dead Dad's car insurance

    No, if there is no claims made the policy can be cancelled with the proper instruction from the appropriate person - though checks to ensure it is the right person can take a little while. Cancellation will come with fees etc but its more than likely a return premium is due after such a short time on cover.

    No.  Only if there has been a claim on the policy would they retain the premium.   

    Normally, once the executor has been legally confirmed (and probate supplied if obtained)  - they cant act on the instructions of an unconfirmed executor - and the vehicle has been transferred, then the policy would be cancelled and a refund given.

    Delays can be caused by probate being obtained (if required) or someone giving the instructions who does not have the legal responsibility to do so (or has not yet been confirmed as having the legal responsibility yet).     So, it looks like going to complaint may be necessary now.
