Help with car insurance

Hey everyone,

My car insurance company had sent me a renewal offer well before the my last premium ended. I did not like it so I ignored them. The company has just sent me a letter asking me to pay for a period 14 days I was on cover after the last premium ended + administration charges.

The amount is 28 Pounds for the 14 days cover + 60 Pounds charges, 88 in total.

Should I pay ?

Thanks in advance.

    Did you organise cover elsewhere?
Have you since cancelled it 14 days after renewal date?
Did you have auto-renewal in place?

Yes, I did organise one elsewhere.
No, as the company was not able to collect the payment, they cancelled the cover.
I am not entirely sure if I had auto-renewal in place.

If you speak to the original company and explain you had cover elsewhere they may cancel the charge.
If you had auto renewal in place and it sounds like you did if they tried to collect payment they are entitled to renew the policy and bill you for the period it was in place.
Your best bet is appealing to their better nature by being apologetic.

I did not like it so I ignored them.
On the renewal letter, it would have said whether the policy is going to auto-renew or not and what you need to do next if you don't want to renew.       If it was auto-renewal and you ignored it then it would renew.

I am not entirely sure if I had auto-renewal in place.
Read your renewal letter.  its not hidden away. its in the main text of the letter.

Assuming the letter that you ignored stated they'd renew unless you told them not to then you have to:

    1) Pay the money

    2) Inform all your current insurers that you've had a policy cancelled for non-payment and continue to do so for the rest of your life
