Are there any cost/difficulties (insurance e.g.) if the owner of the car is not the same as the main/only driver?

The insurance might cost a little bit more, but there's nothing stopping you. The forms usually have a "who owns the vehicle?" question, just fill that in honestly.
I insured a car for years owned by the father, to avoid the change of name. I think it cost me about £4 extra each year.

As above, there's no problem as such, and the increased cost - if any - should be negligible. It's not an uncommon situation - just think of a typical large company where the company owns the cars, but the driver is a sales rep. As long as you fill out the application form truthfully, it won't be an issue.Just remember, any parking tickets, speeding fines, whatever, will go to the registered keeper - who is not necessarily the driver at the time, nor the owner, just to make it confusing (see link below). And the RK is responsible for making sure the tax, insurance and MOT are all up to date. In a "domestic" situation, the RK is usually the same as the owner, but there's nothing saying it has to be.

Depends on the relationship between owner and policyholder... parent/spouse/finance company etc all are very common and almost no insurer will care. More remote connections and you'll find some insurers wont quote and so pricing can be higher due to the lower level of competition for the business.skycatcher said:Are there any cost/difficulties (insurance e.g.) if the owner of the car is not the same as the main/only driver?0 -
More the question of if the policyholder isn't the same as the owner/keeper. Anyone can be named as the main driver on a policy but it's more difficult to insure a car you don't ownRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
