Hotels.com posting or allowing fake reviews!

After a recent hotel visit booked via Hotels.com, someone has posted a review in my name on the website (not surprisingly an Exceptional 10/10 review!).

When contacting Hotels.com they seemed very disinterested and could not adequately advise how to delete the review. They had no inclination to remove the review either, despite me stating that it was not me who had posted it. They then closed my enquiry and have since proven difficult to contact.

I can only assume they are either deliberately inflating the reviews of the hotels on their website, or not bothered that others are doing so. Interestingly I have seen others complaining about this practice on Hotels.com on other message forums.

Does anyone know which ombudsman I should be reporting this to?

    Could very well be.
I've looked at Hotels.com reviews for a few hotels near me. Reviewers are identified by first name only, e.g. 'David, 1 night trip', 'Moira, 2 night trip'.
Dates are given as well, but perhaps another 'Russ, 1 night trip' was there at the same time?

Why not post your own review & see what happens?

  • I have tried to submit my own review via my own login, but it will not allow me to as it states i already have submitted a review. And it will still not allow me to delete the fraudulent review!
And I do not think it can be someone with the same name as the review system is apparently linked to the email address. I suppose it is possible that the Hotel have submitted a review based on my email address (if they have that via their links to the site).
