Lloyds Bank delay in receiving payments

I have had a credit card with Lloyds Bank for around 5 years now. I've always had a direct debit in place from my current account to pay off the full balance and this has always worked well. However, last month and this month when checking my statement I noticed that Lloyds never received the direct debit payment until a couple of days after the due date. When checking my current account statement I can see the money left the account on the required date as has always been the case. Does anyone know what has happened and what I can do to ensure it doesn't happen again?

  • You don't need to do anything, as it's Lloyds responsibility to apply the payment.
  • My first step would be to phone LLoyds to see what they say.  If you say the funds left your current account on the correct date, I suspect there may be a problem at the Lloyds end.  If you've had to pay interest or pay late payment fees, I'd expect these to be refunded (and any records of this removed from your credit file) if it's due to an error by Lloyds.  You should be covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

They've applied interest charges due to it though.

I forgot to mention that my current account is not with Lloyds. Will that cause more hassle to get the money back?
  • Well if interest has been applied you need to speak to them.

No. But you don't want the money back. You just want them to reverse the interest charge on your credit card.
  • They will have received it that day from your bank and likely processed it overnight.
Did they apply a £12 late payment fee?

No late payment fee on either occasion. Just interest.

They won't have received it the same day from the bank.  DDs use BACS not BACS Faster Payments.

If they didn't apply a late payment fee, then are you sure the interest relates to this? Have you perhaps been using your cards for "cash-like" purchases  (such as a cash advance or buying foreign currency etc) on which interest is charged from the date you spent it and does not remain interest free by clearing the whole debt every month like regular purchases.
