Outlook (app) 2019. slow syncing/closing down with IMAP (gmail)

Is this just Microsoft and Google not getting on with each other? syncing takes ages OR gets stuck. Closing down takes ages.
I'll try and remove and re-add the account to see if it makes a difference.

I've no idea if this is connected (I don't understand these things) but yesterday my Outlook wouldn't sync with anything, today it's fine.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1
