RAC Platinum Plus warranty repairs
I bought a platinum plus warranty with the purchase of my BMW 1-Series, from Fords of Winsford in October 2020. Car had a catastrophic engine failure june 2021 as the timing chain snapped. Took it to an approved garage where I was told 2 weeks to replace the engine. Assurant who I believe works on behalf of the RAC, honoured the claim after seeing evidence of the damage and quote for a brand new engine to be fitted. They paid the garage £6,500 to carry out the work. Fantastic so I thought.
Assurant signed the job off as complete on 26th June unbeknown to me. Only after this the garage contacted me to say the engine they had sourced was faulty and had to be returned for another engine. We are now waiting for the third engine to arrive and it has now been over 5 months since I last saw my car!! The garage is now sourcing reconditioned engines through a third party who is sourcing them from Tunisia in Africa and they arrive with no bench testing or safety tests with bits falling off it. He reckons there isn’t a single engine anywhere in the planet for my bog standard BMW 1 Series car 😂😂. I made a complaint to the RAC ADR service and they’re findings support the garage entirely. The dodgy garage has pocketed a lot of money including £1,000 of my own money for a new clutch which I have yet to see evidence of so far, and he wanted this up front!! The car is 3 years old and I have a £13,000 finance plan to pay with 4years still remaining. To say this experience has been stressful and disturbing is an understatement. RAC will not speak in person to you regarding any complaints which makes the whole process very frustrating and bizarre.
They refuse to oversee any work being done on my car like they said, in fact they actively support garages fitting sub standard parts while the owners of the garages are laughing about the money they have robbed and the crappy parts they fit in your car!! All they have done is hand over the cash and think that’s they’re job done. I don’t know where to go next as the garage is not signed up to any ombudsman and I’m worried about my car breaking down again and not being covered.
