I'm near Gloucester. I have found a commercial waste disposal company not far from me that takes trade waste and I will need a tier 2 waste disposal licence for garden waste. Last time I looked it was £49 pa from my local council.

I haven't thought of pond maintenance although again I see a lot on delivery. If I get a lot of enquires then it may be worth the investment.

My plan was to start off just doing lawns, hedges, fence painting etc and then see what I get asked to do, ie I quite like assembling flat packed furniture so if whilst cutting someone's lawn and they ask if I know someone who can assemble furniture it's something I can offer. Been an ex- mechanic I have a large collection of tools, sockets, spanners, screwdrivers etc.

theoretica  you mentioned hedge creep. I again see this on delivery where we go to front door with the letter box but the householders use the back door where they park the car. The path is overgrown, many a time I have been caught up in brambles and in some case I have had to walk over the neighbours lawn.

You are certainly in a strong position starting a new business after your existing job. There are so many cowboys around, people much prefer dealing with someone they know.
  • I fell into gardening a few years ago and while I could have expanded I just do six gardens all within walking distance and odd jobs for others. While I wasn't unfamiliar with gardening, for anything I wasn't sure about there's plenty of information on the internet. I went in at the deep end with restoration and simple landscaping tackling things I was unfamiliar with. Weeding, shrub pruning and when to cut back perennials are the other key things to learn. I wasn't planning to mow lawns but do a couple and occasionally others. I didn't expect to do lawn maintenance but have done and I didn't think I would be putting up trellis. People will always ask for other stuff.
