Moving landline number from Virgin to Sky

Options
Hello there!
I’m trying to get my landline number moved to Sky from Virgin.  Following the sale of our house I had it transferred to the address of a relative pending the purchase of and move to our new home so the line is still active. We now have a new house and Virgin don’t service the property so we are going with Sky who do.
Been told by Virgin that Sky just need to request the number but 2 different staff at Sky are telling me different things - the first said they were trying to request it but the message they had on the screen said this wasn’t  possible and having checked with their manager they said the same. Second person said Sky can never get numbers from Virgin. Who is telling me the truth? I’m at the end of my tether having spent 2 hours on the phone with both companies tonight.
Many thanks in advance for any help!
Laura

Number port was brought in to allow consumers to switch provider at their address without having to get a new number ( losing a phone number said to be  barrier to switching )  , it isn’t a mechanism to move wherever you want , and take the number with you.
If you have the number at one address with Virgin, and want to move it to a completely different address and use Sky, Virgin are under no obligation to port the number because the addresses  are different .
You could try , at the old address , porting from VM to Sky ( that fits in with the porting rules , the address is the same ) then when Sky are the provider at the old address , use a home mover process to move the Sky service from the old address to the new address , but there is no guarantee that Sky will do this , especially if there is a large geographical distance between the property’s as they may be in different ‘exchange’ areas anyway.
