Lead time for new Citroen Berlingo
We are considering getting a new car and have heard of long waits for new cars. I wonder if anyone has any idea how long the wait is at the moment for a new Citroen Berlingo (the passenger version, not a work van)? I am asking here first, to avoid getting any hard sell from Citroen. And how does it work if there is a long delay? Do they just take a deposit or do you have to pay the full price and then wait for months?
One last question - in the 5 seater model are the rear seats completely removeable, like they are in our model from 2014 or do they simply fold forwards?
Thank you for any advice.

How long will depend on a few things.
Many will import stock cars that are then stored, usually at the docks which are readily available to order.
If there are cars held like this you usually don't get a wide choice of build options though you are usually good with dealer fit options.
I write "if" there are cars in stock as there does seem to be a shortage of new cars being built due to chip and other shortages.
Other than that you will have to have a factory build, so you effectively book a spot on the production line so they can build you your car of choice.
Again, shortages are having an effect on production and waits have increased. Before these shortages I never had to wait more than 3 months for a factory build, but it depends on a lot of factors like shipping etc.
The only way you'll know is ask the dealer. They will be well aware of anything in stock and what the outlook looks like for a factory build.
I believe the rear seats on the 5 seat are what Citroen call "Magic Flat System".https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfKuUjFeMZ4

Thank you for your detailed and helpful reply. That video was very helpful. Thank you.
If I may ask another question? When looking at a second hand car,, maybe a couple of years old, what is more important - mileage or age? I have seen cars that are one year old with twice the mileage of those that are two years old. Which is more significant in terms of value and longevity? Thank you.

Is the OP seeking a quick delivery, or happy to wait?
One car sales website lists four available in stock.
There are likely more, assuming you can find one that suits your option preferences.1 -
Are all these fields of cars we used to see on the news all sold now or are there still a million astras on a field somewhere no one wants?0

We ordered our new Berlingo in the middle of October. It had to be a factory build and the approx date I was given was the end of February.
This will be our 2nd Berlingo and would definitely recommend one.1 -

We have had two Berlingos, looking to buy a third. Did you have to pay the full amount up front? Did it have to be a factory build because of an unusual specification that you wanted? Our current is a 2014 model and we love the load capacity with the rear seats removed - holds an adult trike and bike. But it seems that in the 2018 and onwards models the rear seats are not removeable.

I *think* they are made in batches, so an order now would still be in February, rather than a rolling 4 months.
Purchase wise you'd pay a deposit now, and the balance when the car is ready to collect. You may be able to lock the trade-in value of previous car, but the pricing is pretty volatile at the moment so I think dealers would want to avoid that (4 months is a long time for a car value).

I would find the exact spec you want and the look online.

We didn't have to pay anything in advance. But we have used the dealer for a number of years.
My current berlingo which is a 2019 car doesn't have removable seats but they fold flat and still give you a massive load space.1
