As above check out common scams to make sure you know what you are doing, and never ever part with money up front.kgard8 said:I have found a motorhome I am keen on buying from gumtree, if I buy it using a loan am I protected in the motorhome turns out to be useless later down the line?As for being protected, it will all depend on whether you are buying from a private seller or a business ,and how you physically pay will also play a part.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The easiest way to check if this is a scam is to email the seller and ask to see the vehicle and ask for a test drive. If they say you have to pay a deposit to "reserve it" first, walk away.Or say you "just" happen to be in the area and can visit in the next hour and see what they say.The trouble with me is I like to wind up scammers. I know I shouldn't do it but sometimes I just have to.

Sorry to shout but I feel that buying anything from Gumtree with a loan would be absolute madness. You could be left with a useless vehicle but you'd still have to pay the loan. You will still have to repay the loan, whatever happens. What protection do you think you will have?
You would be far better advised to buy a motorhome - or indeed any other vehicle - from a reliable, well known dealer who has proper terms and conditions, warranties and guarantees. It may cost more but it really will be well worth it in the end, especially where peace of mind is concerned. And it should turn out to be a much better investment.
Also, don't forget to do that easy check online thing, to ensure that any vehicle you consider buying is worth the outlay. Especially this one - https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history Then you'll know how a vehicle has performed in the past and whether it's worth throwing the bank's money at. If it's failed more MOTs than it's passed, you'll know what to do.
But buying motors on Gumtree? Never.
