Car insurance help
Hi,
I am hoping someone can give me some advice regarding my car insurance as I am panicking over a step increase in my final 3 months payments.
I have been with GoSkippy for 3 years and until 2 weeks ago, was driving a 2007 Ford Ka, with fully comp insurance. I opted to pay monthly and was paying £36.79 per month.
Unfortunately the car failed it's MOT at the end of October and it was not worth fixing due to the cost of the car. So I ended up buying (with a lot of help from my dad) a 2nd hand VW Polo for £950.
The Polo is 3 years older than the KA but is the very same engine size. So was assuming it would be negligible in terms on cost for insurance.
I changed my details online as it would cost a whopping £50 admin fee to do it on the phone but was still charged £35 fee to do it online.
Then to my horror, was told my final 3 payments, ( the policy ends in Feb) would be £97 per month!!! Over £60 a month more than I was paying. Yes this included the £35 admin fee, but I am now paying as much in 3 months as I have done in the previous 8 months.
Even more confusing, when I went online and did a new quote, using my exact same details for the car and my personal details, I was quoted £33 for the year.
So how come I am now being charged £97 a month? I need some help, as with spending out on a new car, albeit with some help, I honestly can't afford to pay £97 a month for car insurance for 3 months when previous it was £60 less.
I did ask to cancel but was told it would cost near £170 to cancel
Just need some advice as really stressing over this now. Thank you

Is that a typo, saying your quote was £33 for the year? Do you mean £330 or £33 per month?
Sometimes I find it's cheaper to lapse the insurance when changing a car and to take out a new policy as different companies can price similar cars vastly differently. However if you're paying monthly then there may be an issue with the payment being spread over the year and still owing for time you've already had.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Sorry yes, meant to say £330 for whole year.
So how does it make sense that they quote £330 for a year, yet I am paying £291 for 3 months?!
Even adding on the £36, for 3 months, for the old car on top of it would still work out cheaper then £291.
£291 for 3 months insurance on a 2003 1.2 Polo is ridiculous. More so when they offered a quote of £330 for a whole year0 -
Cancel the existing policy and buy the whole year then.1

Who gave you the £330 quote? If its your current broker then its very possible that the quote is from an different insurer on their panel whereas your existing policy is tied not only to the broker but the current insurer.
Have a conversation with them, if the £330 is a price from them, sometimes they'll do a deal for you to buy another year now than just get another few months out of you and you take your business elsewhere.0
