Email this morning-
'We’ve united the power of SSE Energy Services and OVO.
Last year, SSE Energy Services (the part of the SSE Group that supplied your energy) became part of the OVO family - a group also made up of OVO Energy and CORGI HomePlan.'

I see Msers' input reveals only closed threads from 2 years ago, presumably from initial announcement.

Years of wkly SOs of £7 and £9+own readings give consistent surpluses, currently E£113 10, G£262.50!  Withdrew nearly £500 excess for car repair bill not many months ago.

Given recent and continuing energy market chaos, is there anything particular this mean and lean OAP user should be aware/wary of?

  • Confusingly SSE still seems to maintain a presence under that name on the generation side of things, if not supply. Although it seems that there may be changes afoot there

    From The Scotsman…

‘Alongside half-year results this week, the company will provide a strategic update to reveal its plans to further accelerate growth, including stepping up its investment and how it will fund that.

There has been speculation that the group could announce a break-up of the company which would see a separation of its wholesale energy business from its renewables arm. Listing the renewables business on a stock exchange separately would allow it to raise money from investors to put into developments and would help SSEreach its goal to triple renewable output by 2030.’

The supply side is apparently part of OVO now, which makes it the second largest supplier in the country.

SSE plc is a FTSE100-listed business, with £18Bn market cap. I have SSE shares in my SSISA. Retail supply is/was only a small part of it.
It will be interesting to hear their strategic update.

  • I assume that as part of the original deal OVO would only be allowed to use SSE's name for a limited period, so presumably they're now preparing to move all SSE branded customers over to the OVO brand.

Looks like part of the "strategic update" is getting rid of Scottish SSE staff and replacing them with call centres abroad, as per a phone call I got this morning telling me I had to arrange a date to get a new meter installed. As it turns out, this new meter is a "smart meter" which I really don't want as I'm quite capable of working out how to save electricity myself. I've also been waiting since November for payment for energy produced from my solar panels. Usually it would be paid within a couple of weeks. So to answer your question, I'd keep an eye out!
