In Jan/ Feb this year we had a new patio laid (28 m2)
Yesterday, when I went out into the garden one of the slabs, has got a thin hairline crack right through the middle.  This is right in the middle of the patio and now I can't 'unsee' it

The local company that did it, was paid via BACS and isn't a member of checkatrade or similar

Not knowing anything about landscaping/patios etc
is there anyone out there who could advise if this is a 'normal' occurrence on something that cost nearly £3000 and has cracked within 10 months
what we can do about it, any legal avenues ?

    Many thanks

Legal action on £50 portion of the patio? Are you having a laugh?
Are you? It's a part of the patio, not just a slab. What will you do if, say, paint of your new car starts peeling in some small area?
It's not that I advocate legal actions as the only way of solving this problem.

Talking to the contractor would be a good start.

You are comparing apples and pears.  It is a simple matter to remove one paving slab and replace it.  That's very different to paint peeling on a car.  The main point being made however, was the OP looking for legal action apparently almost as a first line.

Legal avenues? You are MASSIVELY overthinking this!

Just call the company up and politely ask them to come round and take a look and fix it. Any decent company would take pride in their work and happily come and rectify any issues that arise.

If they then ignore you, or refuse to do anything about it, THEN you would write a letter before action giving them 28 days to fix it before you commence legal action. You would then need to get someone else to quote to fix it, and take them to court for this amount.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
