Gmail is changing my words

I type an email "Hi Beth" and gmail is changing it to "Hi What".  I can't get gmail to stop doing this.  

I have smart compose turned off.  

I want to try changing the gmail view to basic html view to stop it showing all the gimmicks how do I change it to basic view only?   I used to have it on basic view many years ago when my computer could not cope with all the gimmicks gmail offered a basic no gimmick view. 

EDIT gremlins at play me thinks.  It is not doing it now .

Try scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Google is making this nigh on impossible to find. Nothing on the standard view to switch to HTML view. Nothing in settings.

I found this link by searching online

But I still cannot make it save it as my default preference view. The HTML is a much nicer view.

Do you both wear a monocle and behave as if you're both very upper class and living in the 1920s? If so, replace Hi with Hello and repeat the name. That works nicely.

Probably not what the issue is but beth is Welsh for what.
