Nationwide Current Account: Change Payee Reference

Does anyone know if I can change the 'Reference' each time I make a payment to a Payee with all other details remaining the same.
The payee in question requires a different invoice number shown on each payment I make to them.
It seems the only way to do it is to delete the Payee and set up the same Payee again with a different reference number!

I don't think you'd need to delete the payee - on the website you can click on "Manage Payees" and then "Change Payee Details" to amend the reference - you'd then need to authorise the reference change using your card reader.
At least Nationwide remembers the reference - I'm having the opposite problem with Chase - which doesn't save references at all, meaning I have to remember to type in my credit card number / mortgage account number each time I want to make a payment to those accounts.1 -
If you want to do it in an app, you'd have to use a different bank. Lloyds, Starling, Halifax, BoS, Santander are the ones I know who let you change the Ref in the app3

Thank you for the replies.
I have only used the app for the past couple of years and it did not occur to me that the website could do more than the app.
Problem sorted!1 -
Halifax certainly dont for everything - doesnt let me change the ref for my credit card for instance. However it does for personal payments to other people.Daliah said:If you want to do it in an app, you'd have to use a different bank.
