Saga Motor Insurance - Compare the market

Although a quote from Saga looked very competitive, when I was redirected from Compare the Market, Saga asked about my no fault claims and slapped another £50-£100 pounds on the annual premium.

Will be going for One Call this year I think as they stick to what Compare the Market say the premium should be.

I do get it though.  But it would be easier if Saga went to Compare the Market and said "look we take a dim view of any claim history regardless of fault.  Can you take account of this in your estimate?."  It would save potential Saga customers time because they would not have bothered to apply to Saga in the first place.

Have you searched on here about One Call? After you buy they tend to go through all your details with a fine tooth comb and charge significant additional premiums if they find you owned your car 3 months less than you declared etc.

Aggregators don't work like that, the site passes all the details to either the insurer/broker or their software providers and the company then responds with a price plus potentially prices for optional extras like Legal Expenses. The problem comes mainly from the fact that there isnt a 1:1 mapping of the questions the company wants answering or the options they have. So Compare the Market allows you to declare you keep your car in a secure carpark over night but ABC Insurance only gives the options of garage, driveway or on street. Likewise ABC may want to know if you have CCTV covering where you park your car but CtM doesnt ask this and so they have to decide if to rate on the most common answer, the mid point or drop the Q for aggregator business. If they go for the former two then they'll need to clarify the answer once the customer clicks through.

There are also those just on poor systems that cannot deal with the volume of requests that come through and so do various short cuts to get out a price with less overheads.
