All suppliers refusing to install new gas meters

So we're moving into a new house in a month, and all of the suppliers - BG, EON, EDF, Ecotricity and so on have stopped installing new gas meters 'due to the current market'.
What are we supposed to do - we're gonna have no hot water or heating this winter - this is like the dark ages.

Possibly a silly question, but what is wrong with the one that is there at the moment? Has it been condemned?1

It's a brand new connection - there wasn't gas there before.
And it's a renovation so all the old electric storage heaters were removed.0 -
There was somebody else, recently, who had the same problem. I think Shell obliged.

Ahhh okay. Not so good.
Have you tried speaking to your gas distributor to see if they can help? Not sure where you are but could be Cadent or SGN etc?0 -
Surely if you're buying a property, it should already have a functioning heating system, so the developers would have already had gas connected...have they not!!?How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)1

My gas distributor has told me that it is the supplier who provides the gas meter.
Just to reiterate: it's a renovation and the original storage heaters were removed as they were no longer functioning.1 -
So have they installed gas central heating? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0

Its a national problem and not just for domestic.
I know a developer who has three new induatrial units being completed in the next 4 weeks. He can't get electric or gas meters installed to test installations. He won't have the water connected until he knows he has heat to stop pipes freezing.2 -
@Sea_Shell- I have just spent a few thousand having the new central heating installed - we were just waiting to get it connected before we move in0

You might be able to use LPG in cylinders to tide you over, but that will need boiler mods (at least a burner change, I don't know enough about modern boilers - maybe speak to your installer?)nicepurpleshirt said:@Sea_Shell- I have just spent a few thousand having the new central heating installed - we were just waiting to get it connected before we move in
