Outstanding Alleged Debt
In 2016 i changed my energy provider from OVO. Spoke with OVO to advise of the change of Gas/elec supplier and requested them to send details of anything outstanding. Didn't hear anything from OVO i.e. final bill and 14 months later I left the property. Now they have referred the debt to a debt collecting company who are harassing me for apparent outstanding amount of approx £200. Do I have any come back regarding the fact I wasn't informed at the time of any outstanding debt?

It is normally up to the new supplier to inform the old supplier of a change. They then agree (with a third party adjudicator) on a mutual final/opening reading in the absence of one supplied by the consumer. If OVO didn't supply a final account withing 12 months you are in the clear, but you had better be sure of your ground. Are you certain you didn't receive a final account by any means?
