RETURNING BOUGHT CAR

If it’s just because you’ve changed your mind, then none.
If there’s something wrong with the car post-sale, then you may have some.0 -

If the purchase was a fully remote purchase, the the CCR apply and you can return within 14 days as per the following guide:
https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-contracts-regulations-ajWHC8m21cAk
If you purchased in person at the Dealership, then the order T's&C's become relevant. Sometimes there is a "no quibble 14-day exchange" scheme offered - the detail of the written word will be important as it may mean exchange not refund.
Have you paid for the car in full and taken delivery of the car, or is it just the deposit that you are seeking to recover?
If you paid any of the purchase price with a part exchange, you may not receive the part exchange vehicle back, but only the amount that was given for the part exchange vehicle.
Any more advice is going to require more details about the circumstances and how far progressed the process is.0 -
They have agreed to refund the money minus 40p per mile that i have driven in it, is this a reasonable amount to charge or should i negotiate a lower amount? Trading standards say to contact a few other garages to see if they charge a lower amount and then use this as a negotiating tool with the dealer i bought the car from?0

If it wasn't a remote purchase which would have given you the right to return as detailed above, bite their hand off and pay the mileage charges.

For reference, the tax-free amount that an employee can be paid for mileage for work is 45 pence per mile (subject to limits).
If I were you, I'd take that offer and bring the case to a swift close.3 -

If you start haggling, then they may just tell you where to go with your car. Have you done so many miles that 40p per mile is any significant amount? If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -

Also, imho 40p per mile is reasonable as that's the standard HMRC rate for mileage which takes into account depreciation etc. Thye could've charged a lot more, ie, think about how much you'd be charged for leasing a car in this period.0 -
As i said in my previous post, they have agreed to take the car back. I bought it in person. Speaking to trading standards was helpful as they confirmed that the car was not as described therefore i was entitled to ask for a refund. It was not just because i had changed my mind.0
