When will the hotel take money from Credit Card?

Booked a hotel and it was pay on arrival.
We checked in on Saturday and I handed over my card and the £158 was immediately showing as “Hilton hotel “ and the amount deducted from my available balance.
They were meant to hold £60 security deposit from my CC also but they didn’t.
Anyway we checked out yesterday and a few hours later the £158 was back on my available balance and the transaction had gone (yet transactions the day before /same day and day after had gone )
Do I need to ring them and find out what’s happened ?
Why has this happened ?

1) Yes, if you need to know when they'll take payment.

How much was the room?
They often put through an authorisation (but not collection) for the room + an arbitrary amount to cover "extras" if you say you want to be able to charge things to your room... in this case it appears £60. So if the room was £98 then that would make sense of the £158 hold.
Normally that authorisation is killed off and replaced on checkout with the actual amount to be billed as your spend may be more or less than the £60 set aside. For my cards it normally shows on the day of checkout but occasionally its a day or two later, especially if overseas. Clearly if you checkout in person its more likely to be quicker than if you just drop the keys/room card into the express checkout box.0 -
Did you use the same card details when booking it?slou33 said:Booked a hotel and it was pay on arrival.

Yes I used the same card when booking and checking in.
The £158 was the total cost
A few months ago I asked and they said they also charge the £60 incidental charges at check in but they didn’t.
We checked out and handed keys into reception and she checked and said that’s everything.
Not overseas it was in Liverpool.0 -
They have 6 months to process the bill under card regulations.Life in the slow lane0
