Positive Covid test - Premier Inn booking refund?

interference
Hi,
I've just tested positive for Covid, and tried to cancel a Premier Inn booking for the weekend as I won't be able to travel. It's just a standard booking so they said it isn't eligible for a refund, can only change the date - anyone had any better luck?
Thanks

Changing the data is a good result if the booking is non-refundable. I would grab that with both hands if it's still on offer.1

Not a question of luck. The choice was yours when you booked originally. Refundable rates come at a premium for these very situations.1

All of the above.
You have a choice of a cheaper non-refundable rate, or a slightly more expensive rate which permits cancellations and refunds. Your choice but you really shouldn't moan if you pick the non-refundable rate and they then tell you the rate is non-refundable when you wish to cancel.
Thanks them very much for the kind offer to change your dates.4 -
In fairness Premier Inn are behaving very well with cancellations. I booked one last night and had 3 options , non refundable (but date can be changed right up to the day of arrival) , complete refund of money if cancelled 3 full days before arrival or the option I chose, full refund if cancelled by 1pm on the day of arrival/ The full refund option I chose was only about £9 dearer than the non refundable, I thought that was worth the extra for peace of mind.

Prior to the pandemic, the cheapest Premier Inn rate did not allow any cancellation or change in any circumstances.
In response to Covid, (and the increased likelihood that travel plans may change at the last minute )Premier Inn have made the cheapest rate more flexible so that up to 1pm on the day of arrival you can cancel and rebook the same hotel for a later date - this is one of the best cheap hotel booking policies that I have seen .
I have just made a booking for £29 a night , if I can’t make that date , I will be wanting to visit the same local at a later date so the cheapest option was perfect for me .
As @soolin @Westin @Thrugelmir have already said you can choose the fully flexible rate at time of booking which is slightly more expensive and means you get a full refund if your plans change last minute.2 -
I have a 1 night Premier Inn booking for this Saturday and deliberately chose the more expensive option to allow cancellation until early on Saturday.0
