  • do you know why you expect core2 duo or is it because that's what all the adverts have, just like a few years ago they had intel processor with ht technology although that did little for the performance?

What's it to be used for, is it going to be carried arround, who's it for and tbh I generally would ask if they want it 1st or maybe prefer the money and add some themselves?
  • comet had some Acer laptops for £299 a couple of weeks ago. I'm sorry but i don't know the specs (doesn't make any sense to me), might be worth a look?

For over £450 you should be looking to try and get a C2D. It's the best processor out there for laptops. Runs cool and fast. Very efficient too.

Dells are a good choice, but quite expensive from looking at the site. My dad picked up a 640M for £420 ages back. Nice laptop. Runs Linux perfectly too.

You may have to look at other makes, like Acer or Asus.

I'd have a look at https://www.dmxdimension.com if you're thinking of a Dell. Currently there's a C2D Inspiron 1520 showing for £469, also an Inspiron 6400 with a faster C2D processor but poorer graphics for £499.

And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • how about this with 5% cashback with quidco and £100 cash back should make it near £420 mark

It's a got a Turion cpu. Which isn't a bad cpu, but the C2D is definitely better.

I've got a Turion, and it's ok. Not as powerful as the C2D and I find it runs quite hot (50-60C generally). I bought mine (a 2Ghz) about 4 months back. I have to say I wish I'd spent the extra money and got a C2D. My folks use a Dell 640M with a C2D and it's much smoother, faster and cooler. If you're thinking of spending just under £500 a C2D is the way to go.
