Underfloor heating - Heatmiser

Hello,

I'm finding that my electric underfloor heating (Heatmiser) is using around 4.2kWh per hour (£0.70) for the living room alone on wooden flooring

Just wanted to see if this cost was typical as it seems quite high

Thanks,

The name and the floor type don't matter as electric heating is 100% efficient.
What matters is how much energy your room needs to heat it - and this depends on many factors - house structure, insulation, draughts, temperature you want and even on location (upstairs/downstairs as hot air goes up from the ground floor to the first floor).
The energy you need is the same for gas and the electricity. Gas heating is a little less efficient (depends on the boiler), but 1kWh of electricity costs about 5(!) times as much as 1kWh of gas. That's why electric storage systems exist that use cheaper energy at night,  - with electric underfloor heating this is impossible. And that's why most people prefer wet underfloor heating that is more expensive to install, but much less expensive to run.
I think very few people here (at MSE) have electric underfloor heating in big rooms.
