Shell Energy - taking Flexible 6 tariff when moving home?

I was a Green Energy customer on a fixed contract and I am currently in the process of the Shell Energy transfer and to be placed onto the Flexible 6 tariff standard variable tariff.

However, I am hoping to move home around December. Any idea if the Shell Energy Flexible 6 tariff standard variable tariff can be transferred to my new home?

  • Your new property will already be supplied by an energy supplier. You will be on a deemed contract with that supplier from the day that you take over the property. Shell MAY allow you to switch back to your old tariff but you will have to ask them for confirmation.
  • Is there any point in switching?  You will be placed on the standard variable tariff of whichever company was the incumbent supplier to the house you are moving into and all standard variable tariffs are near-identical because they are capped by OFGEM.

It's a new build, so I guess that there will be no supplier at the new property?

So,dont you have a gas or electricity supply then?.
Assuming you do have a supply then as already stated you have a supplier, contact them and open an account.
When that's been done do the standard comparisons and see if it's worthwhile switching, unlikely at present.

Of course there will be. I moved into a new property in 2010 and there was a deemed supplier already here.

The SVR is the SVR no matter who it is with to be honest, absolutely pointless initiating a switch back to Shell once you move. They may not even want you.

There is always a supplier, if there is a supply, someone had to arrange to put the meters in  and the builders need electricity/gas to finish their work in the building.
It is very rare to manage to end up in a property where nobody claims the meters.

The developer should be able to confirm who will be supplying. In fact it's very likely in the information pack that your solicitor has - and will probably have sent you a copy of.

And if not, there will likely be a letter waiting when you move in.
  • No matter if there were shady deals, the supplier the OP is walking into will be the same price no matter who the supplier is.
