That said, the eBay experience has a low but significant probability of having hassle and even downright scamming - phones are a particular target for scam buyers.
To balance that, I have traded-in two phones over the last 'n' years and in both cases the seller of the new phone (Samsung) reduced the offer price of the trade in once they had received it.Yes they can & often do, you'll find plenty of examples and then you are left with the hassle of getting your old one back or selling for less than anticipated.

Another vote for CEX here. I was happy with their offer on my last phone and not having to potentially have any hassle with a dodgy personal buyer.

It's because they grade according to condition, that is why the price sometimes changes after the phone is examined and tested.
I've always been happy with the prices Cex paid and no risk to me of scam buyers etc2
