Water resistant flooring- laminate? LVT?

I'm wanting to replace the carpet downstairs in my new house.
I have 3 dogs and carpet seems impossible to keep fresh and clean.
In my old house there was laminate (no idea what sort) throughout and certainly in the hallway (wet boots, paw prints etc) it didn't fair too well as the years went on.

I had no idea there was so much choice, do I need something thats water resistant? I know I can buy the laminate thats made for bathrooms but it is necessary, is laminate generally water resistant?

I'm just wondering what peoples experiences are.

IMHO, there is an inherent contradiction in 'water-resistant laminate".

Vinyl flooring is water resistant, and sheet vinyl is pretty cheap too

Run as far away as possible from laminate!!!!
LVT looks nice plenty of different brands around

We've had every type of floor because my husband was absolutely resistant to LVT for some reason, but it is absolutely the best thing when you have dogs.

Doesn't scratch, withstands any accidents and it's warm underfoot.   Our dogs (kids/husband) ruined everything we owned before.  Tiles are practical too but we're a household of glass smashers and nothing stands a chance against tile.

The only thing that worries me about LVT is water getting through the joins. Once it is underneath, it’s not going to dry out any time soon.

Bear in mind that, in kitchens, washing machines may flood, by the front door you’ll bring wet boots in, and in any case you’ll want to mop it with water.

    I’m probably just worried unnecessarily.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
