Thanks again for all replies.
Getting my Dad's flat was always a long shot in my eyes, but didn't want to rule it out just in case.
And you're right about not being able to prove how often I was staying at my Dad's, and I was wary of mentioning it to anyone because of how it might look.
Can't be resident at 2 places at once, and didn't want to get me or my Dad into trouble at the time.
Also, with so many people needing homes, getting me a new place was always going to be a long shot.
The callback, which I was told wouldn't happen the same day, did happen.
I had a long conversation with a housing rep from the council.
There wasn't anything he could do for me, as I'm not considered an emergency, but we did go through the bidding system, with him explaining in detail all the different aspects of point scoring, and how it works.
For instance, the amount of time that you have been bidding is relevant (I've always wondered if I was always going to have everyone leap-frogging me, for ever), but the length of time you've been bidding is down the list somewhat, and only used as a tie-breaker if your score is equal to someone else's.
He also suggested taking note of the band that I'm in, and the band that the properties are allocated to.
If I were to bid on a property that was band b, and I'm band c, then it only takes a single person in band b to bid for the property to rule me out, which was good to know.
Not sure if I was bidding above my band or not, but I'll make sure not to now.
He also suggested HomeSwapper, which I will look at.
I do feel a little better.
As I said to him, if I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, then I can work towards that.
That's all I need.
If I know that I'm getting somewhere, then I'm quite happy to set my goals for further down the line.
It was the feeling that I was trapped that was suffocating.
And you're right about talking time to grieve for my Dad.
Everything's so raw right now, so I need to take time for that.
Thanks everyone.
Really appreciate your help.

You might find that bidding on a bigger 1 bed flat will be more successful or more chance or being successful as well. Or even homeswapping one in a mutual exchange, as there will be people who want the smallest place to look after as they can get but still their own little place. The chances of you getting a 2 bed flat will be very slim, as you will be against families (single parents or couples) with a child or even 2 children (depending on age and sex). The is probably a near unlimited number of this category.0
